Google’s new G1 has no 3.5mm headphone jack

I was REALLY close to buying one of the new Google G1 phones.  I’ve read about 5 reviews, and watched a few videos, and had just about made up my mind to go ahead and buy one next month when I saw this article from Engadget.

HTC (the manufacturer of the phone) — HOW CAN YOU NOT INCLUDE A HEADPHONE JACK?

That’s right, there is no standard headset jack, only HTC’s proprietary ExtUSB connector — which means you will need to purchase custom headphones, with a custom dongle — both of which are more than likely to be extremely overpriced and easy to lose.

Looks like I may make the iPhone switch after all (even though I hate AT&T).

TechCrunch has a couple writeups on the phone as well, but they failed to notice this.
